Shelly
Golden Retriever + Formosan Mountain Dog mix | spayed female | 9 months old | 28 lbs

My Story
Shelley is currently being fostered in New York!
Shelley was abandoned on a remote mountain in Taichung, Taiwan. When she was found, she was just skin and bones as she was a young puppy that had to scavenge for food and water which was very scarce. In addition, she had to compete with the other stray dogs on the mountain who were also going through the same ordeal as Shelley. She was close to dying from starvation when one of our volunteers discovered her frail and too weak to run away. The volunteer picked her up and rushed her to the vet. Once Shelley regained some of her health, our volunteers arranged for her to be spayed so she does not give birth to another litter of innocent puppies that will needlessly suffer since there is an overpopulation of dogs in Taiwan.
My Personality
Shelley is a little shy with strangers but will warm up after spending some time. She is looking for a home that will be patient with her and give her space until she learns to trust her new family.
Shelley likes people (who she is familiar with) and likes to play with other dogs. She is scared of bigger dogs attacking her so she needs to smell them first and will be very scared if they come at her too quickly.
Shelley is a foodie and loves all kind of foods and treats. She is very food motivated since she had been starving for some time but that makes her very easy to train. She does not like it when other dogs steal her treats and will be scared. She has a fear of other dogs taking her things that she loves such as food, treats, chews and toys.
Shelley is hesitant to go potty outdoors in the rain and will need additional time on walks for her to go in the rain.
We suspect that Shelley had an owner before that must have beaten her if she had potty accidents inside. If she accidentally poops indoors then she will eat her own stool. However, her current foster mom is training her not to eat her stool and she has shown lots of improvement since.
