My Story

A story before we bailed Smocky from animal control . A foreigner in Taiwan was fed a stray male dog about one year, and she posted the dog’s story to find someone takes him home in starting; she can’t keep this boy so she kept feeding him for a year until the dog ran away because of fireworks in CNY. And then The feeder was looking for the dog by posting on internet, two months later we found the dog’s picture on announcement of government animal control.

We bailed the dog out of the shelter when there’s a space of foster is available; we name him Smocky and ended his 107 days’ shelter life. Smocky wore an old collar in starting when the foreigner found him, we threw the collar which Smocky was wearing about 1.5 years before we left from the shelter; no one took this sweet boy home during 1.5 years.

Episode- Smocky ran back to shelter’s kennel after he slipped out of his collar on the day we’re waiting for to bail him; seemly he’s appreciated a place can be settlement even if it’s not a home.

Smocky was adopted and recently returned to us due to changes in the home. It was a tough decision on the adopter’s end and felt he’d be best in a home with less stressors.

My Personality

Smocky is a sweet young boy with a lot of love to give to his family! He’s a natural guarder and can be anxious around new people and new situations. It’s recommended he have a slow introduction with ample patience on the adopter’s end to give him the space he needs to acclimate. Once he’s comfortable, he enjoys looking for sunny places to nap (in the yard or inside!), working hard for his treats, training, getting pets from his humans. He loves his walks and going on outdoor adventures! He’d make a great companion to someone with shy dog experience and active. Adopters will have support from HARA and his trainer who is currently fostering him.

Note from his trainer: " I haven't seen any reactivity nor anxiety while in my care. I've been able to take him for pack walks and passed other highly reactive dogs that were barking and lunging at him on walks very successfully and without reaction.

Smocky is extremely well trained and biddable with someone who is able to manage him properly. The commands that he knows are sit, down, heel, place, and come all on and off leash. He's very food motivated, but has come to the point where food is no longer necessary during training--although still very useful. Like I said, his dog and people reactivity is non-existent when in my care. All of the behaviors that he knows aren't compatible with reactivity and, because I keep him accountable for his decisions, does not try to break his commands to react at anyone or anything."
