Willa’s Description

Adoption donation is a minimum donation of $650. Please submit an application to get pre-screened. A home visit is required to adopt.

WILLA: Willa named after the “will” to live was the runt of the pack! Willa has since caught up with her siblings and can hold her own. She is sweet and playful, she likes to cuddle and is calm. She will do exactly what her owner wants her to do. She is happy just being :) Willa as a typical female Canaan dog will likely grow to be between 20-40 pounds. She is currently 12 pounds.

Fun Fact: Willa knows she was the weakest but now in the same league as her siblings, she therefore likes playing with her brothers specifically to show off her strength. Also, Willa has small black spots on her coat from her head all the way down her spine to her tail, making her look like a little Dalmatian :)

Note: Willa had an infection in her throat at 2 weeks old which prevented her from eating. When found at that time, she was taken to the vet who drained her throat from liquid which was accumulating. Willa is perfectly fine now and up to date on her vaccines & microchipped!

Canaan Puppies Story

Adoptable Canaan puppies from Jordan - A woman who works at an embassy in Jordan reached out to HARA seeking help for these 5 pups that were rescued off the street in Amman, Jordan. She and a few others found these pups in the neighborhood when they were still too young to leave their mother. A local told them that she was going to call the authorities on the pups. The authorities would have came and shot the dogs as that is how strays are treated in some places in the world. If the rescuers were seen helping these dogs, they would also have gotten harassed and reported for being a nuisance so late in the night, they moved the puppies to a more remote hill along with their mother dog. There were originally 6 pups but someone saw a kid grab one from their new nesting spot. Dog fighting is a common place thing and unfortunately that pup was probably taken to be used as bait. Most stray dogs in Jordan are susceptible to being shot, being tortured and also diseases such as distemper and parvo virus are rampant.

When the puppies were old enough to leave their mother, the rescuer took them home. She and her friends started a GoFundMe for the pups and got them medical treatment. They also did a great job with socializing the pups. There is no hope for them finding homes on Jordan as they are considered worthless street dogs out there. Our goal is to find them permanent loving homes in the states in December. The easiest and most cost efficient route would be to get them into NY. Out of state adopters may be considered if they can arrange their own transportation to pick up the pups from NY.

There are 2 females and 3 males. They are currently 4 months old and 12 lbs. Canaan puppies are high energy and vocal dogs with no known genetic health issues. They need a lot of exercise and stimulation or they will become destructive. Females range from 20-40lbs and males range from 35-60lbs.
